I have been crazy over past few days because of the delay in joining my assigned vessel. I was so determined to have a different day and it so happened my friend Abhishek Mishra, was in town giving his SSB Examination at Bangalore, near the Manipal centre.
We met up after nine god damn years. Time does fly and i never imagined it can fly so fast.
Mostly what do all guys talk about when they hang out after such a long break or even if they are meeting up every single day- our favorite topic GALS.
After the endless topics about the heavenly creatures, roaming so freely on earth we came to our important discussion - Why army?
My amigo was always interested in joining army, if am not mistaken since his childhood. I was so proud that my friend is joining army to serve our country and am sure deep down every Indian wants to do the same and only a meager quantity make it to that level.
I was so touched for a simple act of his which has changed the way i look at things. While on our way back he bent down and picked up an Indian flag (the tiny ones where all the school kids carry with them on I-day) on the road.
Well i was instantly ashamed for not noticing the Indian flag, fallen on the ground. I even wondered, even if I would have noticed this before my friend did, would I have picked up the flag?
I have realized that, its not just on August 15th or on January 26th we have to be patriotic, we need to be a true Indian every single day.
As usual, i was complaining about the issues and i expressed my helplessness in not being successful in clearing the NDA or AFMC exams to serve my mother land and instead am in merchant navy serving myself.
To my surprise, Abhishek told me that it does not matter if I am in the defense or not. All it matters is that if a person is able to support his family and himself is such a great thing for our country.
Wow! true words from a great man and am truly honoured to have known such a humble human being. God I wish, I was serving my country.
I never thought of serving our country in his perspective and all it counts is the little you do is much more sufficient for our country.
Lets all take steps to be as helpful as possible.
Very inspiring... wish u all the best ...
